"East of the Sun and West of the Moon" is a Norwegian folk story I used to read when I was younger. While revisiting it, I was drawn to a part of the story where the main character wakes up in the middle of a gloomy forest after losing her love. I decided to depict this scene to be especially raw, inspired by how the darkest parts of fairy tales are often realized when you get older.
